Your desire to "balance" so much is wonderful and well-intentioned. But without crucial organization and time management systems in place, you'll keep spinning your wheels and never get as much done as you need (let alone want) to. Clarifying your priorities and setting clear boundaries moving forward is essential.

I got so frustrated with all the standard productivity advice out there because it wasn't applicable to my season of life as a busy working mom with young kids. SOLUTIONS:

  • Take a good, hard look at where your time is going. Really evaluate how well your current use aligns with what you say your priorities are. Most importantly, change your perspective on time so you can get a handle on where yours is going and stop using not having enough time as an excuse. Time isn’t the enemy; our use of it is.

  • Take personal responsibility for your attitude and actions (in other words, the things you can control). Learn mindset tools to keep cool in the midst of any stressful situation. The reason life feels so crazy is because your brain was built to perceive everything as a threat. The great news is that YOU have the power to recognize when you’re stressed, calm your brain down, redirect your thoughts, consciously create better feelings, choose more intentional actions, and thus improve the results you experience.   • Develop a planning system that accounts for life's inevitable curveballs so they don't throw you off so much when they happen. The reality is that life isn’t going to get any easier…but YOU can get stronger and smarter. The more you analyze what is and isn’t working, the more “data” you’ll have to avoid overplanning and having disruptions derail your plans.

  • Keep up with the "Everyday Essentials" so you stay strong and healthy. (Not sure what those are? Snag my FREE checklist.) If you’re not taking good care of your body, your cognitive focus and productivity will suffer.

  • Remember that you can’t—and shouldn’t—do it all. Be crystal clear on which of your tasks are (and are not) most important. Don’t let urgent fires crowd out the longer-term things that will truly move your success needle forward!
